It was associated with the New England Protective Union which offered uniform bookkeeping and inventory services. In the years that followed, it took on several identities, then in 1851 its name again became the Dorset Union Store. In 1926 Perry Peltier and Kimball Tifft entered into partnership in the operation of Peltier & Tifft General Store until 1955 when Perry Peltier bought out his partner and renamed the store Peltiers.

It remained Peltiers until 2007 when the current owners purchased the store and returned its name to the original Dorset Union Store. You will still find the creaky wooden floors and a bell above the front door that have been welcoming customers for decades.
